TYPE 2 DIABETES, IS THERE A CURE?
At this time, there is no known cure for type 2 diabetes. It can be controlled. In some cases, it will go into remission.
For some people, a healthy lifestyle is enough to control blood sugar levels. Losing weight if you are overweight, eating healthy foods, and being active. People with type 2 diabetes usually have to take one or more medications or even insulin if not properly controlled.
HOW DOES A PERSON KNOW THEY ARE IN REMISSION?

In the later stages of type 2 diabetes, it is less likely that you will go into remission. Your body will lose the ability to make insulin over time.

- Move more. When exercising you could possibly need less medication. Over time you may be able to give up taking medication.
- Know your A1c. This test gives you an average blood sugar level over three months before the diabetes test. Your A1c can be checked up to twice a year (every six months).
- Work with your healthcare professional. There are risks related to type 2 diabetes, such as heart disease. Even with your type 2 diabetes in control, work with your doctor closely.
